logitech-logoLogitech is, undoubtedly, the ultimate brand when it comes to input devices like the keyboard and mice. A while back, I had the privilege of reviewing two of their top of the line mice the Logitech G9 Laser Mouse and Logitech MX Air Cordless mouse.

While bringing amazing input devices, Logitech also has an incredible speaker system line-up some of which I’ve been eyeing myself. Even though I currently own a Creative 4.1 Speaker system , it is being used as a 2.1 system because I don’t have the need or the space requirements for such a setup. I’ve been thinking of giving these off and purchasing a 2.1 speaker system for myself.

Co-incidence or not, Logitech has just announced a promotional offer that gives you three free DVD sets on purchase of any of their 2.1 speaker systems. Their range includes the X-210, X-230, R-20 and Z4/ Z4i speakers, with more details about each of the system here. The bundled DVD offers three movies that include Rang De Basanti, Guru and Delhi 6. This promotional offer from Logitech is on in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Kerala from May 18, 2009 to June 30, 2009.

I’ve set my eyes on the Z4-i, mainly because it goes with my MacBook Pro.

Just about a month ago, I published the review of the Logitech G9 Laser Mouse which I got to play with from the good folks at Logitech. The G9 is a sturdy and power-packed mouse targeted at the gaming audience and the time I spent using the mouse left me pleased and satisfied that it indeed was the best gaming mouse out there today. But, what about the common consumer? The movie-watching, multimedia-loving, home-theatre managing consumer doesn’t really need the power features of the G9.

While Logitech has a Universal Remote offering for those who want to manage the gadgets in their living room, those looking for a hybrid solution will love the Logitech MX Air. I’ve been playing with the beautiful and sleek mouse for about a month now and it fits just about right in the segment I mentioned above.

Up until a few days back, I was under the impression that a mouse is probably the simplest device essentially used with a computer. There’s nothing much to it anyway – it’s supposed to be a pointing device with two or three buttons on it. I still fairly remember the day my dad introduced me to the different mice in his office, and I spent close to an hour playing with one of them. Yes, we’re still talking about the computer peripheral here, relax.

However, gone are the days when the mouse was ‘just’ a pointing device. No sire, the beloved mouse has evolved through all these generations where precision, accuracy, light-weight, multiple buttons are features that, if absent, make sure the mouse isn’t too popular. With the advancement in technology, Gaming has taken generation leaps to become what we see today. And the mouse is the primary weapon of the gamer. So much so, that it is extremely important for the gamer to settle down and be comfortable with mouse he’s going to use. In fact, almost every gamer I know carries his own choice of mouse to any competition he competes in.

Logitech is, undoubtedly, the pioneer when it comes to mouse technology. The company name has almost become synonymous with mice. Over the years, they have catered to the customers’ need, coming up with newer and newer technologies and feature sets. I still remember my first mouse – a two-button, mechanical, no scroll-wheel mouse and I still have it lying in the loft along with the remaining computer junk. All these years, most of the mice I’ve purchased have been Logitech. My primary mouse, even today, is the Logitech MX518 which I purchased a few months back. So when it was time to review their limelight product, I jumped right up in excitement.

Since my Mac Mini is my primary computer, I have been using an iBall keyboard and mouse combination with it, something that I purchased almost 2 years back with my PC. The keyboard has been playing well so far, the mouse however conked off a couple of weeks back. Since then, I’ve been stuck with a lame mouse which has a non-functional scroll wheel and is a mini mouse, so small that two of my fingers are enough to cover it completely. It was too plasticky and made weird clicky noises.

I’ve been trying to find a good mouse for the last couple of weeks and had zeroed in on the Logitech MX Revolution mouse. However, at a price of Rs. 5000, it didn’t seem worthwhile.

However, it was not until @shadez told me about the Logitech MX518 that I realized that I could get something as awesome as the MX Revolution at less than 25% of the cost.
