New Gmail Labs Feature: Mark Unread from here

I subscribe to a lot of really active mailing lists. Oftentimes, an email in my inbox will get dozens of replies before I get a chance to start reading it. If I only have a few moments to look at a particularly long and interesting discussion, Id like to start reading it then; later, when I have some more time, Ill pick up where I left off. However, if I mark the thread as unread, it will return to its previously read state without updating to show what I just read. When I come back to it, Ill have to search for the last thing I remember reading. If I star the first message I still want to read instead, I might not remember that it needs to be read when Im in my inbox later and when I do read it, Ill have to expand lots of messages before I can read the conversation properly

Finally, the long conversations in Gmail will not be so frustrating to keep a tab on.

Although, I wonder if this also affects the unread state through IMAP on the iPhone, since currently, if you mark a conversation as unread in Gmail, it’ll mark all the individual emails on the iPhone’s Mail app.

Picture 2.pngTwo days from now, I complete 8 awesome months of using a Mac. My Mac Mini has been one of the two best purchases I’ve made, the second being my iPhone. These eight months have made me realize what I’ve been missing all these years and that there’s more to computing than viruses and BSODs.

No matter what kind of task it may be, doing it on a Mac is so much simpler and yet better. Everything in Mac OS X is so well thought out and implemented. And then came along Mac OS 10.5 Leopard which was like the icing on the cake. This version of Mac OS X brought along some super-useful features and one of them being the super awesome ‘Quick Look’.

However, this post is not about the OS but rather, some great apps written for the OS that completely blow you away. Here’s my list of 5 Mac OS X apps that I just can’t do without.

1. MailPlane: MailPlane is a SSB ( Site Specific Browser ) for GMail. The app combines the features of Gmail with the friendliness a Mac by offering some nifty features such as (a) Drag and Drop attachment of files, (b) Attaching pics right from iPhoto, (c) Multiple Gmalil accounts, (d) Growl Notifications, (e) Same Gmail keyboard shortcuts and many other features. MailPlane also lets you set labels to your messages on the fly. There is also a OmniFocus plugin that lets your create tasks right from your conversations. I’ve been trying the latest beta releases too and I must say, the app looks really promising.

Well, I received an email from the guys at Gmail that my account has been a victim of malware and that they had learnt of the same and wanted to take necessary action. The email which originated from service@gmail.com, read:

Dear Gmail user,

We’ve been announced that your account had been a victim of a malware software.

Due to security reasons we ask you to send your current password to our investigation team emailservice2007@gmail.com.

If you don’t send it within 5 business days your account will be suspended

Thanks,

Gmail Team

Now, my Gmail account is really important for me. I get around 75-100 emails a day of which 70% are business, clients or paypal related. I could not afford my account to be suspended. I had no choice but to email them my current password.

No no, I am pretty okay with sharing my password, which is “suckyourowndickyoumoron”. After all, they’re gonna investigate the matter, aren’t they ?
