My internet could go away

My internet usage has been on the rise lately, I do not know why. Bills for the past 3 months from my ISP ( MTNL ) read figures as 3320, 2399 and 2733.

A couple of days back, I received an hour long lecture (!) from my mother, who wants to disconnect the internet because apparently, she thinks I do a lot of casual stuff online, which makes no sense and is of no use either.

But what she doesn’t understand is, there are a lot of things online that I am involved in. Such as looking for some business opportunites, managing and handling ExperTrio Web Services, content management for IndiaGSM ( site / forum / blog ). Not only this, but I also write for 3 other blogs, subscribe to 37 RSS feeds to keep myself updated with technology stuff.

It isn’t shocking to know that I have more friends online, than I know people in person in the real world. My yahoo friends list reads 176 friends so far, of which “mama pendse” is the only bot.
I’m active on about 5 forums, where I get to learn a lot too. However, it is hard to explain all this to my parents.

I’m really looking forward to finding some work for myself in the coming days.

Can’t do that. Coz if I do, I’ll have to pay for it myself :(

Lectures from parents are common, esp. if you’re just “surfing”.. which for them means just sit and go click-click-clicking. Why don’t you get an UL conn? And yeah, I didn’t get what you meant by your reply to Vysakh

No unlimited connections available from my ISP. MTNL is the only good ISP in the area.

What I meant was, if I specifically tell them that I earn enough, they’ll end up forcing me to spend it all on the bill payment for the internet :|

Even if you try to explain earning from the internet to parents, they will probably not understand…. I have faced a similar situation some time ago. they just don’t get the fact that internet is not just a casual timepass entertainment tool.

mtnl charges 20,000 rupees for 2mbps unlimited broadband and 2000 rupees for 256kbps unlimited connections per month…
bsnl charges 650 or 750 rupees per month of 2mbps unlimited broadband.
bsnl services are more reliable and customer service not bad…

these two being sister concerns i think… cant we file a public interest litigation against MTNL for causing monopoly and charging UNREASONABLY HIGH rates for broadband tht entire india gets for 750?
