TataSky - A review [ Part Two ]
2) Installation: [ Part Two ]
The boxes arrived 3 days later with everything sealed and in perfect condition. According to the procedure, I was supposed to call up the helpline again and schedule the installation. They have 3 slots everyday - 9 AM to 1 PM / 1 PM to 5 PM / 5 PM - 9 PM. You can choose the one that suits you. I chose the 1 - 5 slot for the next day.
Surprisingly, I received a call at 9:30 AM the next day, confirming the installation address and time. Then, at 12: 50 PM, the engineer called up, telling me that he will be arriving by 2PM. And so he did. The door bell rang at 2 PM sharp, and I was greeted with “Hello sir, we’re from TataSky. We are here for your installation” :)
( The TataSky engineers always arrive in two. )
The guys were extremely friendly. He checked the direction of TV, position etc.. He decided that the antenna would have to be installed on the terrace, since there was a building right next to us. We head upstairs ( 3 floors above is my terrace ). There, here quickly finds a spot where he thinks that the Dish would be installed. His partner agrees.
Now, while this guy is busy drilling holes for the Dish’s stand, he gets a call on his mobile. It seems, luck had shone for us. Apparently, TataSky’s auditors were coming for a visit to see how these guys are doing their jobs. And I am really thankful that those guys came for the visit. They did a splendid job with the installation. They attach a device to the Dish, and track the exact direction and signal quality of the transmission. If the Auditor hadn’t come, these guys wouldn’t have followed the procedure. So make sure, that this particular thing is done.
See my flickr account link in the right sidebar to see the photos of the dish and the installation. Awesome job done with the wires.
After that, they came back to my house, fixed the wires inside the house and connected the digicomps and we were good to go. The service was activated and the demo was given. I was really impressed with the quality, and heavily cursed my cable guy for providing the pathetic quality.
I’ll continue with a [ Part Three ] of the review soon :)
Thanks

Hmm, well no auditor came here, but they did follow this procedure. So maybe they do do it anywayz… :-?
Yes, they do check signal strength and dish alignment every time.
One guy is an engineer and the other was a carpenter/electrician. Atleast for me.
…A good news… As per New TRAI Regulations.. DTH Operator Can neither take away DTH set-top box.. Nor he can Disable STB if U Opt of service or instantly switchover 4some other Operator.. Just wait n watch 4 More Competitive Prices… Better Speed & Services… With the entry of Blue Magic, Sun Tv. DTH, Airtel DTH, & Videocon DTH v.soon…
Yeah Marc is right, they eben checked the signal quality when they installed it in my home.
Well see the service when it rains, since whenever it rains here,Tata Sky does not work(Sometimes only) :(
Tata Sky is a best service provider for customers. But it is a very bad company for their employers(Particularly FSE).Company is not listen to a installer problems.
TaTa Sky: Isko Laga Dala toh Life Jinga Dala :p
(anyone tell me what that means?? :-/)
Well anything is better than those damned cable operators, looking forward to Part 3 :D
I read similar blog over net and thought Tata Sky is a “god” thing. However my experience with this service started as soon as I got the setup box. I am still persuing them to install the antenna at my home. They keep on booking the slot and defaulting each time. Everytime I had to call the helpline (020)66006633, only to hear “we are sorry sir”. They are of the opinion that it might take more than a month’s time for installation from the day I remind them of installation. You can now find out the truth. I must say all the seven bloggers:- yaar you might be the lucky one. Tata Sky means: Isako laga dala to life jinda jalaa dala.
