Why I love my Nokia E50

Ok.

There are tons of reviews out there praising ( or not ) the stylish, sleek and sexy Nokia E50.

Ever since I bought the phone, I haven’t taken it off my sights ( unless ofcourse….. you know ). I can arguably do a hell lot of activities on the phone, which I couldn’t on my older phones and which other people still cannot. But then, this entry is not about the features that the phone has that everyone talks about.

The one particular feature that I really appreciate having is the “Remote Lock”. This is a part of the phone’s security system and is extremely useful if you are careless about the phone or if you live in or travel in a crowded area.

So what exactly is “Remote Lock” ?
Before I begin, I’d like everyone to know that Nokia Series 60 phones feature a security system known as the Lock-Code. Once set, you can set it for various things like “on-startup” , “on-keypad lock” etc. What this means is, you set a numeric lock-code into your phone. Now, according to the level of security you set, the phone will prompt for the lock-code for usage, meaning if you lock your phone, to unlock it, you will need to enter the code. Basically, to cut things short, its like a password only.

Cut the crap and tell us what Remote-Lock is.

Ok ok… I am.
Well, remote-lock is a feature which enables a user to Lock a phone from a remote location by sending a SMS to that phone. This is a unique message and has to be pre-set into he phone. Whenever the phone receives this message, the phone locks itself and can only be unlocked using the Lock-code.This is very useful if someone just stole your phone. Just send an sms to your number and the phone will be locked. This security feature overides other features, so even if the thief ( or anyone for that matter ) switched off the phone, removes the battery, resets the phone of does a master-reset, he will still require the lock-code. The only exception here is the “Flashing” of the phone, since the entire OS is re-installed in this case.

So….. if any of your friends have a Series 60 3rd ed phone, you know how to play a prank on him now ;)

Till next time…

Ciao

    Well,

You can yourself SET what you want the sms to be. Something like “GOTO HELL YOU THIEF”
    or anything you want.

Plus, you even get a reply that the phone has been successfull locked.

Ohh, and my number ? Well..

    9869 12 12 14 ( say it in Hindi :p )
