Transcend Pen-Drives, me and my washing machine
Wondering what the title is all about ? What are those 3 things doing in one sentence ? Well, read on.
Its been about a year now, that I purchased my Transcend JetFlash 256Mb twins. I was fascinated by them, how so much Data could be stored on them with such a small physical size. About a year back, I had paid Rs. 700 for a single 256MB stick.
And now, you can easily buy a 1 GB stick for a mere 650 bucks. The price of these pen drives, be it Transcend, I-ball or SanDisk has fallen to a great extent. My dad recently bought 2 GB Trancend twins for his college. I too, am longing to get one for myself. Probably a 4GB one. Haven’t decided yet.
Ohh, so you must be wondering where did the Washing Machine come in the title, aren’t you ?
Well, all of the 4 pendrives mentioned above, have been on a up and down journey through my washing machine. We do not have a maid to wash clothes and this job is done by my Granny. She usually takes the clothes lying around, puts them in the washing machine, opens up the water tap, presses the settings buttons and turns on the ride and relaxes. Now, ME and my DAD both have a habit of keeping the Mass Storage Devices in our pant pockets. And thus, these devices have been been through water, soap, washing cycles, hot water firings and what not.
The first time I realised that they have gone through this, I was pissed and worried at the same time. A lot of “Imp” data was abord the chip. I quickly took it and started removing the water. With my fingers crossed, I tested it and it worked. Yayyy \:D/, And believe me, everytime then on these drives have been through the machine, they’ve shown no signs of damage. You just have to make sure that no water remains in them when you plug them in. Else, it _may_ short.
So you see, I have complete trust in Transcend pen drives now.

Oh I wonder what would have been its case if it were hand-washed :P
I use a lanyard to carry my pen drives, its safer until someone decides to give you a wash… :P
