energy conservation is such a big joke

Well yea.. it is.. Don’t you think ?

Here, we’ll talk about two types of energy conservation that is the need of the day.

  1. Power / Electricity Conservation
  2. Fuel Conservation

Let’s talk about Power Conservation, shall we ?

Dozen’s of districts and cities in Maharashtra ( and elsewhere ) are facing the load-shedding crisis. Power is cut-off for them from 2-4 hours for the cities to upto 14 hours in the smaller villages. Yes, upto 14 hours in some inner parts of Maharashtra. The villages are without power for the whole-day, with their small businesse and other works, their means of livelihood all shut-off. 10 hours is all that they can enjoy, which includes an 8-hour sleep.

OK, so the electricity board cuts of power so that it can be conserved. !!! Yeah, right… Have you ever thought what exactly happens ?

Well, firstly, we all saw the article in Mumbai Mirror where the electricuty board office was glowing with lights the time load-shedding was applicable, with ACs blaring at full-speed. Nice power-savings na ?

Secondly, these guys give a fixed time for load-shedding. Now, the middle-class, and the upper-class can all easily manage to by “Invertors” ( Not Generators, but Invertors ) . Now, these devices are being charged at the same time almost all devices and appliances in the house are being used. This means, at times when the house has Power, it is using up almost double the power. Now where’s the saving. Invertors have become so cheap, that almost every house has them. I say almost, because the small houses, with upto 14 hours of power-cuts cannot afford them.

So, as you can see, there isn’t really “any” power-saving. Plus, it’s only the poor that are affected here. I’m not saying that power doesn’t need conservation. All I’m saying is that there are much better ways to save power and if done in a correct way, a lot could be saved.

Also, lets talk about fuel conservation now.

We’ve been reading ever since our 8th grade of school that there is scarcity of Fuel on our planet earth, and that the reserves are alsmot empty etc etc. and that we must save fuel as much as we can. But do, really ?

Forget about our own cars for a second. Atleast we use them for “something”…. What about arcade racing ?

Wikipedia says “F1 Race fuel consumption rate is normally around 75 litres per 100 kilometres travelled

All this is purely for entertainment. Around 60 laps each race and around 16 cars… you do the math !

That’s a LOT of saving, isn’t it ?

Yes. That is a good point. What we need are alternate sources of power and energy.

yes think about all the government offices, call centres, multinational companies.
how much they waste electricity even if no one is on the entire floor.
