Yea..

This isn’t like any other bosses though. This one’s free ( as in free speech ) and its Open Source. Yea yea. And I’m not kidding.

Please welcome.. BOSS which is short for Bharat Operating System Solutions. BOSS is a GNU/Linux Operating system developed by CDAC, the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing and National Resource Centre for Free/Open Source Software (NRCFOSS) with an aim “to contribute to the growth of FOSS in India through Research and Development, Human Resource Development, Networking and Entrepreneurship Development, as well as serve as the reference point for all FOSS related activities in the country including the creation and maintenance of this national FOSS Portal.”

I first came across this Linux Distro through this thread on CHIP . Having used Ubuntu ( My fav. Linux Distro :) ) and OpenSuSE ( My second choice ;) ) for quite a long time now, I went to BOSS’s site and the screenshots looked promising. So I decided to download the .iso image of BOSS that night, thanks to MTNL’s Night Unlimited plan. The download was ON from 0000 hours to 0745 hours @ 2038kbps. Even at this speed, the download was only 13% through. ( @-) :-w )

I was furious. I went onto my Gmail Inbox tab and quickly despatched them a mail saying that if they “really” wanted FOSS to spread locally in India, they could atleast ensure a good download server :|. Next day, I recieved a reply, asking for my address details. I sent.

And Woah ( :-o ). They actually sent me a 3-CD Pack of BOSS Linux. Cool na ? I am yet to try those out. I’ll update ya’ll as soon as I do that. I’m attaching a few pics for you. :)
