Automatic Scheduling for MTNL’s Triband’s Night Unlimited users
—————
Update:
Folks,
Many thanks for the tremendous response to this post. I have decided to give out the password to the Router_Reboot_Essentials file here. The password is ‘damngoodblog’.
—————
After BSNL made a huge leap ahead, and upgraded the broadband speeds upto 2Mbps, MTNL too wasnt far behind. They upgraded to 2Mbps in some areas, and are still in testing phases in the remaining areas. Also, MTNL still lacks in the 24hour unlimited plan even though BSNL/Airtel introduced it ages ago. My last entry will give you an idea why I hate MTNL
so much now.
Anyways, MTNL’s Night Unlimited users ( 0000 hours to 0800 hours ) who are still @ 256 kbps still need to reboot their routers after 12 and before 8 so as to enjoy their free time. Such a thing doesnt exist in BSNL’s billing, as reported to me by “intelomkar” and others.
So, here, I present a tutorial, for all the Night Unlimited users of MTNL.
The following tutorial will allow you to automatically schedule rebooting of your router so you don’t have to worry about staying awake till 12 or getting up early at 8.
Please Note: The tutorial is based on the ‘D-Link DSL-502T’ router provided by MTNL or purchased seperately. I’m yet to try this on the “UTStar” router. If anyone has, kindly contact me.
[Update:] People are commenting that this also works on the UTstar modem :)
Requirements:
- Windows OS ( 2000 or higher ) [ Windows because I'm yet to come across a good System Scheduler for Linux. If anyone does, kindly contact me.
- D-Link's DSL-502T as your Triband Router.
- Flashget Download Manager ( To automatically schedule your downloads in a better way. [Flashget 1.8+ also has supports for torrent. So I use it as my universal download manager]. )
- My “Router_Reboot_Essentials.zip” file ( This file contains the basic commands / programs / files to reboot the router ) [ The file is password protected. Email me with the subject "Router" to get the password ]
The Guide:
Well, first and foremost, goto http://192.168.1.1/ and enter you router details. After you Log-In, goto the “Tools” tab on the top. Scroll down to “Remote Telnet Management”. Enable it and specify the IP as “192.168.1.1″ and Subnet as “255.255.255.255″. This is how it looks..
Now, extract the contents of my “Router_Reboot_Essentials.zip” file to C:\router folder. This folder will have the following files.
- System Scheduler Setup.exe
- RouterReboot.txt
- TST10.exe
- router.jpeg
Now, run the “System Scheduler Setup.exe” file. This will install the “System Scheduler” program on your system. This is basically just a program to schedule various events.
Next, open RouterReboot.txt in Notepad and edit the value “your_password_here” to your router’s login password. So, suppose your password is “acchablog”, your file will look like this.
Your image goes here.
Save and Exit this file.
Now, open System scheduler and Click on New event button to create a new event.
Fill in the details according to the image i have provided in the “Event” tab.
Click on the “Schedule” tab and enter the following details.
You can change the time according to your need.
After this, save the event. Just to make sure you did everything right, right-click on the event and click on Run Now.
Like this,
If your router reboots, then yayyyy…
Duplicate the event so you can schedule for Night as well as Mornin.
All the best…

nice !! now u wont have any sleepless nights !!
Me?
I have been using this for ages !
Now all that i need is Home 500 :((
MTNL is from 0000-0800? that 2hrs more than BSNL. X(
P.S. Wat happened to ur 900 UL plan cool?
When i shift to airtel limited plan i will ask for ur help !!!!
@Rajesh : Sure !
@Neelu : Yea, 2 hours more Uploads not counted :D
@ Cool : Why the Home 500 ? Why not 900 ?
hey.. i didn’t know that was possible! Sometimes when you post stuff about your internet, it makes me feel jealous! Poor souls like me who live in a hostel can only use wireless internet cuz no external cables are allowed inside!
hey I think u just missed mtnl unlimited plan on their site I am using mtnl’s unlimited plan of Rs 949 before this i am using night unlimited plan. your technique may do the trick but mtnl connection is not stable it broke even after 2 minutes of connection and if you running torrent software(in my case azures) requires restart once modem
is rebooted.
@munim: Thats SAD.. But then again, we’re not happy with what we have too :p :D
@Abhinav: THe unlimited plan is only for Delhi and not yet in Munbai.. Mumbai just has the Night Unlimited plan..
The above trick works wonders for me ;)
Hey…this is awesome stuff!
Well, is there any limitation of the software if I use the router through USB or ethernet?
Thanks
This is sweet…I was thinking of getting this plan after my boards finish…and this would help so much!!
Why password protect the files ?
Just to be safe !
I didn’t want people hot linking the file without actually _me_ getting the credit.
hey suppose you open your computer after 12:00 and close it before 8:00 then nothing gets charged na.
or you have to restart your Router even then..
y the timepass of giving password do u think others are fool
Meh..
Why would I think others are fools ?
The password is just to avoid leeching of the files from my blog without due credit to me.
password is a bad idea.
Noone wants to leech(I hope)
and once they do get the password whats gonna stop them from copying the steps and file on their own and then who gets the credit?????????
That’s a good point made there, mate. But atleast for those who _do_ leech, I had to do it.
Plus, I also had to save some bandwidth.
Here goes script for ut300-r2
192.168.110.181
WAIT "Login:"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT "Password"
SEND "password\m"
WAIT " ->"
SEND "reboot\m"
WAIT " ->"
Sadly its doesn’t get the specific last line which is require to exit WAIT ” ->”
Thanks Preshit ;)
Thanks to you too Zack :)
btw instead of SEND “admin\m” you can also type “root\m”. source: google search.
whats tha password to the file???
I am changing over to Home 500.
Will be thankful if you can provide the password.
. Anybody else needing this, will refer to this blog. , without divulging the password !.
Thanks.
Hey, I tried this but for some reason it always says login incorrect. I havnt changed the password.
My router is D-Link GLB-502T
And username and password are router defaults.
I am able to login from the web interface. But not thru telnet.
Any suggestions?
Hi,
Are you sure remote telnet management option has been enabled in the modem options ?
Hi Preshit,
Yes. I cant do it.
Did a bit of googling and found that for this modem version we need to give “root” as username. And it worked manually. But cant get TST10.EXE to do it.
Any idea if this is disabled in this model of D-Link modems (GLB-502T)? Also, I am unable to find the remote telnet management in the web interface.
Thanks
Will have to see / tweak a bit of settings from your side. This technique has been tried and tested on the GLB too.
Can you state the firmware please ?
Also, a stupid question. Did you use “root” as the username in the router.txt file too ?
I don’t have the GLB, but I’ll see if I can find the telnet option on a friends modem.
Hi,
Googled a bit for the GLB. Have to use “root” as username instead of “admin”. However, thru web interface the username is “admin”. Now the telnet script looks somewhat like this:
———————-
192.168.1.1 23
WAIT “login”
SEND “root\m”
WAIT “Password”
SEND “admin\m”
WAIT “#”
SEND “reboot\m”
WAIT “#”
———————-
Havnt been able to schedule it though. It works manually but not when scheduled. That should be a small problem with windows somewhere.
Have created a .bat file with following command. Executing it does the job.
—————————
tst10.exe /r:reboot.txt
—————————
Thanks
hi,
ur articles r very informative… please keep writing more…

dude can u mail me the password pls……harshavardhan77@gmail.com….i hav a glb 502t router and i did nt find the remote telnet management….
It is working on Dlink GLB-502T.
Just copy paste the below lines inside the RouterReboot.txt file
192.168.1.1
WAIT “BusyBox on localhost login:”
SEND “root\m”
WAIT “Password:”
SEND “admin\m”
WAIT “#”
SEND “reboot\m”
NOw follow the steps mentioned in this blog.
Thanks to Preshit.
Hey, one more thing. I just wanted to know what 23 stands for in this line 192.168.1.1 23. Thanks.
@Chetan:
The script works on any router that supports telnet login. And the 23 in the line is the port number. Telnet works on Port 23.
Hello,
I have the UT router and can’t figure out how to work it at all. Even with the updated script from Zack.
What is the equivalent for Remote Telnet Management. Any help would be much appreciated.
Regards.
Hi All
Any one facing a problem with the script given on this site.
I mean the script is flawless and works like a charm but behaves in a very erratic manner.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
Due to this erratic behaviour I have had a couple of nights where my download has been counted in my normal day downloads.
There is no fixed time or steps that I have been able to dicepher as to why the script behaves in this manner.
The error is standard - could not connect to host 192.168.1.1 on port 23. Connection timed out
I have enabled Remote Telnet Management in the router settings, I have enabled the Telenet service in the Windows Services applet also.
Is there anything else that needs to be taken care of in any of the other settings.
I have the DLink DSL - 502T router from MTNL.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
thanx a lot …ive been using this option for ages but somehow for past few days i wasnt able to telnet 192.168.1.1 ….after reading your article ive enable “remote telnet management” and thing works again like a charm…but im worried abut who changd the parameter in first place ?
