Technofest wasn’t big..

January 31, 2007

YEh, it wasn’t.. Why ??

Coz it was HUGE. Gigantic I’d say. Yep Yep..

We had expected a tremendous response ( we’d put in THAT much efforts ) and we did get a large crowd, but not as much as we expected.

The event was inaugrated at 09:45 hours. ( Yeh, believe that, just 15 mins late :p ) by Shri. V.K.Singhji, Chairman of Thakur Educational Group.

We, the last year students were supposed to be at the stalls but we cudn’t since we had a BIG task on hand to manage everything that was happeneing there.

There were slight problems in the beginning of the day.. Most of the PCs ( about 150 in all ) were restarting every 10 minutes since the main AC power supply that the decorator had given was unable to bear the load.

We, the volunteers managed this pretty well by segmenting the Sections ( :D reminds me of Salvi sir and AMP )

Anyways, the trustee was really reallyhappy by the work of the volunteers.

I’m sure the next years event will be a great success too. :)

YEh YEh..

This is like ones of those entries where the blogger gives reasons ( read: excuses ) why he hasn’t updated the blog.

But hey, this entry is definitely NOT like those entries where the author ONLY gives reasons. This entry is also informative since I’ll give ya’ll some info about an awesome event happening in my college.

The thing is… from the date I wrote my last entry, I’ve been busy as hell working on organising this fest in my college.

My college, Thakur Polytechnic, a diploma level engineering college, located in Thakur Complex, Kandivli (East) holds/organises an exbition of all the projects that the final-year students of all the 6 have to make as a part of their curriculum. The 6 departments of the college are,

  • Computer Engineering
  • Computer Technology
  • Information Technology
  • Electronics Engineering
  • Electronics and Telecommunication Enginnering
  • Mechanical Engineering.

Thakur Polytechnic, is prolly the only technical college in Mumbai that exhibits the projects for public viewing. The exhibition, Technofest showcases the talented minds of the skilled technical students as the demonstrate their projects. Various industry men, seniors, software gurus, students from other schools and colleges, etc come and visit this event. Some of the projects at the back of my mind are “GPS Based vehicle tracking, Wireless energy meter and other. I’ll update the list as I get it.

However, this year, Technofest 2007, is not only an exhibition, but also a “State -Level Project Competition”. Various entries have come from all over the state, including entries from Jalgaon and Nashik. This state-level competition has been sponsored by the “Maharashtra State board of Technical Education ( MSBTE )”.

The other sponsors also include,

We also have other sponsors for the event.

I’ll keep you updated.

Till next time..

Ciao..

Am I a SONY Fanboy ?

January 14, 2007

A few days back, I was just wondering about my Electronic Devices that I have played with, since my pre-youth. It was then that this thought made its way into my head. Am I a SONY Fanboy ? Or does SONY really make awesome gadgets.

Here’s the List ( in no particular order )

  • A SONY MHC-VX701 Music System ( Bought it for 26000 INR long back )
  • A SONY Discman ( About 5000 INR )
  • A SONY DCR-HC15E MiniDV HandyCAM ( 34000 INR )
  • A SONY 29-inch Flat Screen TV ( 26000 INR )
  • A SONY-Erricsson z550i music phone.
  • A SONY DVD-Writer on my PC.
  • A SONY Headphone.

Long – list ? Or Not so long…. The fact remains that 90% of electronic devices in my house are by SONY. If SONY made fridges and washing machines, they’d have been SONY too :p

Update 2:

Fixed the download link to the .zip file.

Update: Folks, Many thanks for the tremendous response to this post. I have decided to give out the password to the Router_Reboot_Essentials file here. The password is ‘damngoodblog’.

After BSNL made a huge leap ahead, and upgraded the broadband speeds upto 2Mbps, MTNL too wasnt far behind. They upgraded to 2Mbps in some areas, and are still in testing phases in the remaining areas. Also, MTNL still lacks in the 24hour unlimited plan even though BSNL/Airtel introduced it ages ago. My last entry will give you an idea why I hate MTNL so much now.

Anyways, MTNL’s Night Unlimited users ( 0000 hours to 0800 hours ) who are still @ 256 kbps still need to reboot their routers after 12 and before 8 so as to enjoy their free time. Such a thing doesnt exist in BSNL’s billing, as reported to me by “intelomkar” and others.

So, here, I present a tutorial, for all the Night Unlimited users of MTNL.

The following tutorial will allow you to automatically schedule rebooting of your router so you don’t have to worry about staying awake till 12 or getting up early at 8.

Please Note: The tutorial is based on the ‘D-Link DSL-502T’ router provided by MTNL or purchased seperately. I’m yet to try this on the “UTStar” router. If anyone has, kindly contact me.

[Update:] People are commenting that this also works on the UTstar modem :)

Requirements:

  • Windows OS ( 2000 or higher ) [ Windows because I'm yet to come across a good System Scheduler for Linux. If anyone does, kindly contact me.
  • D-Link's DSL-502T as your Triband Router.
  • Flashget Download Manager ( To automatically schedule your downloads in a better way. [Flashget 1.8+ also has supports for torrent. So I use it as my universal download manager]. )
  • My “Router_Reboot_Essentials.zip” file ( This file contains the basic commands / programs / files to reboot the router ) [ The file is password protected with the password ‘damngoodblog’.

The Guide:

Well, first and foremost, goto http://192.168.1.1/ and enter you router details. After you Log-In, goto the “Tools” tab on the top. Scroll down to “Remote Telnet Management”. Enable it and specify the IP as “192.168.1.1″ and Subnet as “255.255.255.255″. This is how it looks.. Tools Tab

Now, extract the contents of my Router_Reboot_Essentials.zipfile to C:\router folder. This folder will have the following files.

  1. System Scheduler Setup.exe
  2. RouterReboot.txt
  3. TST10.exe
  4. router.jpeg

Now, run the “System Scheduler Setup.exe” file. This will install the “System Scheduler” program on your system. This is basically just a program to schedule various events.

Next, open RouterReboot.txt in Notepad and edit the value “your_password_here” to your router’s login password. So, suppose your password is “acchablog”, your file will look like this.

Your image goes here. RouterReboot.txt

Save and Exit this file.

Now, open System scheduler and Click on New event button to create a new event.

New event ( Click to Enlarge )

Fill in the details according to the image i have provided in the “Event” tab.

Even details ( Click to enlarge )

Click on the “Schedule” tab and enter the following details.

Sched

You can change the time according to your need.

After this, save the event. Just to make sure you did everything right, right-click on the event and click on Run Now.

Like this,

Yo

If your router reboots, then yayyyy…

Duplicate the event so you can schedule for Night as well as Mornin.

All the best…
